TAYLOR M. GOULBOURNE, PH.D., M.P.H.

With a blend of research and service design expertise, I focus on empowering nonprofit and community-based organizations in the Omaha metro, to effectively connect with and support their communities. I’m passionate about both my work and sharing knowledge, which is why I have the privilege of serving as an adjunct instructor at Thomas Jefferson University. There, I teach the Program Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation course in their Master of Public Health program, where I enjoy mentoring and guiding future public health professionals.

As a LUMA-certified human-centered design practitioner and a participant in PMI's Wicked Problem Solving course, I bring a thoughtful, user-centered approach to every project. My experience spans over a decade, during which I've led research initiatives and designed solutions both in-house and as a consultant. I firmly believe in the power of intentional design to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and promote healthier communities.

Having been born and raised in Omaha, I am deeply invested in my local community. I currently serve on the board of directors for EPIC for Girls, am an active member of the Junior League of Omaha, and contribute to No More Empty Pots' community advisory committee. In my current role as a Senior Consultant at Technical Assent, a service design advisory firm for the U.S. federal government, I continue to apply my expertise to help drive positive change. I hold a Ph.D. in Communication from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in Kinesiology and Anthropology from The College of William & Mary.

I’m excited about the opportunity to collaborate with organizations that are committed to making a difference and look forward to finding ways we can work together to create lasting, positive impact.

MY EXPERTISE

STRATEGIC RESEARCH & SERVICE DESIGN

Service design is a holistic, human-centered approach to creating and improving services, especially crucial for mission-driven nonprofits and community-based organizations. By deeply understanding the needs, behaviors, and emotions of both service users and providers, service design helps develop solutions that enhance the overall experience and impact.

Key Elements of Service Design:

  • User Research: Gaining deep insights into the needs and challenges of those you serve, ensuring that your programs are truly responsive and effective.

  • Co-Creation: Involving stakeholders—including community members, staff, and partners—in the design process to incorporate diverse perspectives and foster collective ownership.

  • Prototyping and Testing: Developing and refining service concepts through testing to ensure they are practical, impactful, and ready for implementation.

  • Service Blueprinting: Mapping out the entire service journey to identify key interactions, support systems, and areas for improvement, ensuring a seamless and effective service delivery.

  • Iterative Improvement: Continuously refining services based on feedback and evolving needs, ensuring sustained relevance and impact.

At its core, service design for nonprofits and community organizations is about being thoughtful and intentional in how services are crafted and delivered. With a strong emphasis on mission-driven values, service design can transform lives and foster healthier communities. By aligning your services with the true needs of your community, you can create meaningful, life-saving impacts and drive positive change.
